Dental Team

In an era when many dentists choose to “specialize” in cosmetic dentistry, Dr. Shawn J. Douglas has taken a different route. As a general dentist with postgraduate training in techniques such as dental implants, he emphasizes good oral health as the basis for a great smile.

Dr. Douglas’ has received some of the best training in the country. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Dentistry (considered one of the top three dental schools in the country), and then went on to the University of Florida for a general dentistry residency. There he received the J. Frank Collins award, which is annually presented to the resident who best exhibits the qualities of dedication, efficiency, and excellence while providing patients with complete dental care.

Putting patients first has been a hallmark of Dr. Douglas’ career. In the summer of 2006, he volunteered for a week-long dental mission to Honduras to provide dental care to many people who had never before seen a dentist. He feels caring for the less fortunate is very important and plans to return yearly. He has also performed research on the barriers to dental care for underserved populations and submitted his findings to governing authorities in order to improve their care.

In 2006, Dr. Douglas agreed to join, and eventually take over, Odessa Dental Center. He looks forward to serving Dr. Jackson’s patients and to welcoming new patients to the practice.

Dr. Douglas and his wife Jamie, a Tampa native, enjoy water skiing, biking, and traveling.
